It's Dangerous to Go Alone

I'm in the preparation stage of my plan, now. I've got the Zelda NES Virtual Console channel on my Wii (I heavily debated buying an actual NES system, but they're so expensive and there aren't many really good games for it anymore), set up my Wii and a small TV in my bedroom (in my parent's house, of course), and printed off a map of the Overworld (now tacked onto my wall). Below are some photos I took out of boredom:

My map spans 2 A4 sheets of paper, printed to the border. Each page covers EXACTLY 50% of the Overworld (the borders of the middle 2 map squares are perfectly on the edge of the page, kinda cool to me), and I've made only one annotation: the starting point (a little 'S' on the square where you start the game). I hope to make more annotations when I discover the secrets in the game for future reference (shops (hidden or otherwise), money-making game, good places for rupees, warps etc.).

I'll also need food 'n stuff. I'll work on that when I get there, it'll probably just be chips, solo/pasito and apples (to satisfy my apple cravings, those f*****s are amazingly juicy).

On another side-note, I'm going to try naming all my posts after the game's quotes (so far so good). This might get harder later on when I've used them, but the dungeons and items I collect will help a bit (I'll just name a post after the item I find during that game session). I'll also try for uniqueness in each name.

It's a Secret to Everybody... except to me

I sometimes like to consider myself a 'gamer'. I enjoy playing games, discussing games and (to an extent) design games. I keep up with gaming TV shows and web series (such as Zero Punctuation, although that's more a comedic style), and someday I hope to become an indie game designer and/or own a video[game] store. However, I have a fatal flaw. I have never completed the original NES title "The Legend of Zelda".

This is, of course, unacceptable and must be rectified. However, "One cannot simply dive into Death Mountain." It takes time to finish such a legendary game (no pun intended), and it can take hours, days, even WEEKS before you can get halfway (if you're of a certain standard of skill).

This is the purpose of this blog. I vow that I WILL beat this game. I WILL collect all 8 pieces of the Triforce, I WILL defeat Gannon and I WILL save the princess Zelda (and she will be in the same f***ing castle as I am). From January 1st, 2011, I will play as much as possible, equipped with a Wii-VC Zelda game, a sideways Wiimote, a small TV and an ultra-basic map of Hyrule, until this golden title is smashed to pieces by my awesomeness. I'll chronicle my 'adventures' after every session here, down to how many times I died and my reactions to what happens (namely frustration and excitement).

I've started my countdown. 65 days left until I start this monster. And then, when I've finished the game and watched the credits roll, I will finally be able to call myself a Gamer.

P.S: I have to include the following tag for RSS purposes. It has to go in one of the posts on the blog, so in the first one it goes:
